SAVIOUR BALZAN TOURISM minister Edward Zam- mit Lewis has been warned over the concerns expressed by stakeholders at comments from Alitalia's presi- dent Luca Cordero di Montezemolo that a minority stake in the Maltese national airline could go for little or no cost to the Italians. Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has made it clear that Air Malta must continue to service Malta's routes as a tourist destination if it is to sell 49% of its stake to Alitalia. "Privately, Zammit Lewis was told that Air Malta has a price and is definitely worth more than one euro, unlike what Montezemolo said, and that the minister should be wary of technocrats playing down the air- line's value," a government source has told MaltaToday. But Zammit Lewis was terse in his reaction to this newspaper about progress on the Alitalia negotiations. "If there are no strategic and con- crete advantages for Air Malta from the memorandum of understanding with Alitalia as an Etihad partner, nothing will be finalised." Zammit Lewis said that at this very moment various technical as- pects were being discussed with Ali- talia. The designs, seen by MaltaToday, are part of a revamped proposal for the green patch at Villa Rosa and bordering the protected Harq Hamiem valley, from developer Anton Camilleri 'tal-Franciz'. Camilleri, who owns Garnet Investments, is planning a mix of residences and boutique hotels, as well as retail outlets and offices for the area, which could be set for a revision in heights in an updated local plan.
