FILM FESTIVAL JUNE 3-11 Valletta Film Festival Second edition of the Valletta Film Festival, featuring an eclectic programme of local and international short and feature films, screened across various venues in Valletta. This year's edition will have director Alan Parker (Midnight Express) as its special guest, while a selection of the works of Terry Gilliam (Brazil, Twelve Monkeys) will be screened free of charge. BOOK LAUNCH MAY 26 The Big Book Launch – Ede Photo Books Series Three + Ede Art Books In collaboration with Marina Beach Hotel At The Corinthia Beach Resort, Ede Books are launching third series of Ede Photo Books consisting of five books and presenting first three books in Ede Art Books edition. Ede Books will also present other books published in the last two years. Featuring books by Chris Vella, Cyril Sancereau, Inigo Taylor, Mary Attard, Simon Attard, Christopher Saliba, Teresa Sciberras and Olaug Vethal. PUBLIC LECTURES MAY 23 Beyond Representation – Spatiality in Game Studies and Game Design Public lecture at the Institute for Digital Games, University of Malta by Stephan Günzel at 19:00. Looking at the debates about the 'spatial turn' in cultural studies, the talk responds to the main antinomies in the present discourse and shows how Game Studies have contributed to it as well as how they rely on the respective paradoxes. MAY 24 Public talk with Joseph Allen Shea Public talk at Blitz, St Lucy Street, Valletta at 19:00. In September this year Blitz presents a solo exhibition of American pre-pop artist Corita Kent (1918 – 1986), in a collaboration with Galerie Allen, Paris. During this preliminary visit, Curator and Director of Galerie Allen, Joseph Allen Shea will present a public talk at Blitz to introduce the work of Corita Kent and share stories about his practice and what he has set out to achieve with Galerie Allen. The Blitz bar will be open following the talk. MAY 25 Public talk by Prof Mourad Yelles: Some main issues on oral tradition Prof. Mourad Yelles will give a public talk organized by the Department of Maltese at the University of Malta on on 'Some main issues on oral tradition. Women's urban quatrains in North Africa'. Taking place at the Faculty of Arts Library, University of Malta at 16:30. The event part of the Department's project on Maltese Oral Tradition. The general public is welcome. Prof. Yelles teaches at INALCO, an established University in Paris.
