maltatoday, SUNDAY, 23 OCTOBER 2016 41 THE Royal Ballet's live cinema slate will be introduced through Kenneth MacMillan's full length ballet, Ana- stasia. Local ballet lovers can tune into the world famous company perform the well-known repertoire as it is beamed live at Eden Cinemas on November 2 at 20:15 from the Royal Opera House, London. MacMillan's full-length ballet is a compelling exploration of identity in the turbulent wake of the Rus- sian revolution. Anastasia is a bal- let about one of the great historical mysteries of the 20th century, only recently solved. At the height of the Russian Revolution the royal fam- ily were executed, but afterwards a young woman appeared – appar- ently a surviving royal princess, the Grand Duchess Anastasia. Known as 'Anna Anderson', she couldn't remember her past and she was pre- sumed to be an imposter. This production is one of MacMil- lan's first creations on becoming Director of The Royal Ballet in 1970, and is performed to music by Tchai- kovsky and Martinu. The powerful melodies help the audience follow the events leading to the murder of a family, and Anna's confused dreams – or memories. Natalia Osipova will be perform- ing the role of Anastasia in this Cin- ema live broadcast. The character presents a powerful and psychologi- cal challenge for the principal bal- lerina, which is a rare opportunity to see a landmark ballet by a major choreographer. This dramatic and haunting pro- duction of the exploration of Anna's nightmare of identity is available to watch at a fraction of the over- seas prices, and it will be available to view for one night only. Tickets for the live broadcast are available at €18 for adults and €10 for chil- dren and under 16. This includes a complimentary glass of wine and complimentary parking at the Eden Leisure Car park. An encore screening will also be shown on November 6 at 15:00. Tickets for this are priced at €15 for adults and €10 for children, includ- ing free parking. Tickets may be purchased from the Eden Cinema box office or online at www.edencinemas.com.mt This Week Dwarna with Mariella Dimech every Tuesday at 21.00 on TVM2 Experience Anastasia live courtesy of Eden Cinemas The classic ballet will be beamed to St Julian's from London Reaching out for an international musical platform Malta Takes London takes to crowdfunding to finance future editions THE Malta Takes London ini- tiative is currently on a crowd- funding drive to raise funds for future events, in the hope that it would be able to continue provid- ing a London-based platform for Maltese musicians.
