maltatoday MOTORING The Last Ever Bugatti Veyron Super Sport Is Going Up For Auction The Bugatti Veyron is one of the most iconic supercars of the last decade. While its successor, the 1500-hp Chiron, is highly anticipated, the mighty Veyron will al- ways be fondly remembered for being ahead of its time, both aesthetically and technologically, and as one of the most powerful supercars of the early 21st century. The engineering marvel is already considered a rarity since only 450 were built during its 10-year production cycle, but you do occasionally see them available at auctions. This particular Veyron going up for auction is very spe- cial and will no doubt generate plenty of publicity. Not only is it the 300th Veyron coupe to roll off the assembly line, but it's also the last one that was ever built before production of the final Grand Sport Vitesse commenced. This model happens to be the Super Sport, the souped- up version of the Veyron which cranks out an incredible 1,200 hp from its beefy 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 engine. Only 48 Super Sports were made and only eight were delivered to the US. That makes this a very rare example of a US-spec Super Sport. It comes with the serial num- ber 300 and its chassis number also ends in matching figures. It's in immaculate condition too, sporting a sleek, all- white exterior, a black interior and only 400 miles on the clock. It is going up for auction by RM Sotheby in Arizo- na as part of a sale next month. When it initially went on sale in 2010 the Super Sport could be yours for around $2 million; the final model sold for over $2.3 million in an auction last year. That figure will no doubt soar when it goes under the hammer again next month.
