It's Beaujolais Nouveau time THURSDAY 16 November 2017 was Beaujolais Nouveau Day, celebrating the first wine of the season just a few weeks after the harvest. Possibly the most well- known producer of Beaujolais Nouveau is Georges Duboeuf, credited as being one of the mar- keting geniuses behind the wine. Although most vintages should be consumed the following May after their release, Beaujolais Nouveau is meant to be drunk young. This fresh and fruity red is the result of a quick fermenta- tion process that ends up with a tasty, clean wine enjoyed by pal- ates the world over. Beaujolais Nouveau originated about a century ago as a cheap and cheerful drink produced by locals to celebrate the end of the harvest season. Beaujolais Nouveau owes its easy drink- ability to a winemaking process called carbonic maceration, also known as whole-berry fermenta- tion. This technique preserves the fresh, fruity quality of the grapes without extracting bit- ter tannins from the grape skins. The Gamay grapes that go into Beaujolais Nouveau are hand- picked in the Beaujolais prov- ince of France. This year Farsons Beverage Imports Company (FBIC) Lim- ited teamed up with Alliance Française de Malte to celebrate this world-famous day at Far- sonsdirect's Wine Shop. Beau- jolais Nouveau is a perfect ac- companiment to cheeses and charcuterie and a superb table was also prepared for guests to enjoy. Georges Duboeuf 's famed Beaujolais Nouveau wines are imported, marketed and distrib- uted by FBIC, a member of the Farsons Group. Vodafone Malta wins Corporate Social Responsibility award VODAFONE Malta has netted the Corporate Social Responsibility of the Year award during this year's Best in Business awards ceremony. Held under the auspices of Presi- dent Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca and organised by MBR Publica- tions Ltd, the Best in Business Awards recognise outstanding and exceptional achievement in business excellence, innovation and ethics. Head of Corporate Affairs Jason Pavia said that, over the years, Vodafone Malta had not only in- troduced new technologies and services to the island but has also contributed positively by invest- ing in a more sustainable society. "Vodafone Malta is not only just committed to providing our customers with the best network quality and customer experience. We also care deeply about the community we operate in and we are passionately invested in help- ing bring about social change," Pavia said. The company puts together a calendar of regular Corporate Social Responsibility activities. Employees are galvanised into dedicating their time and energy towards multiple worthy causes, from taking it upon themselves to restore Golden Bay to its pristine beauty during national clean-up day, to embarking on a number of painting and carpentry jobs to help renovate children's homes. The company culture also rein- forces this spirit of giving, as every employee is granted 3 days of an- nual community service leave. However, most of Vodafone's largest and most impactful pro- jects are delivered through the Vodafone Malta Foundation. Since 2003 when it was first set up, the Vodafone Malta Founda- tion has donated over €3 million to local causes across Malta and Gozo. Under the Connecting for Good strategy, the Foundation has helped youths experienc- ing any form of trouble, such as relationship problems, anxiety, addiction, abuse, self-harm and family breakdown, by providing real-time, one-to-one counsel- ling through the "Kellimni.com" mobile app and web portal in con- junction with SOS Malta. Together with the Speech Lan- guage Pathology Department, the Foundation created a mobile app, "NaqraNaqra", used especially by speech language pathologists to treat children with severe speech and language impediments. In November, the Foundation launched its latest project in col- laboration with the Paulo Freire Institute – an online literacy toolkit called iċ-Ċavetta for disad- vantaged adults and youths who lack basic reading and writing skills. Vodafone's Head of Enterprise Kenneth Spiteri accepts the award Fundraising tea party in Gozo A fund-raising tea party is being organised by the Victoria Inter- national Arts Festival committee next Sunday at the Kempinski Ho- tel, San Lawrenz, Gozo, between 4pm and 6pm.
