maltatoday, SUNDAY, 25 FEBRUARY 2018 42 Events Fundación MAPFRE to bring over to Malta a major exhibition of the great masters Picasso and Miro AT a press conference at the Grand- Master's Palace, President Marie- Louise Coleiro Preca announced that Fundación MAPFRE will bring a major exhibition of Picasso and Miro to Malta in April 2018, on the occasion of Valletta 18 – the Euro- pean Capital City of Culture. This is the first exhibition of Pi- casso and Miro in Malta and per- haps of any modern painter of this stature. This exhibition is being held in collaboration with the Of- fice of the President of Malta and Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti and will be part of a major international project "Picasso-Mediterranee" an initiative from Musee national Picasso-Paris, which is an inter- national cultural event held from spring 2017 to spring 2019. Pablo Jimenez, Director of the Culture Area of Fundación MAP- FRE said that Fundación MAPFRE believes that culture enriches peo- ple's lives and that they have spent many years bringing art and his- tory closer to the public through exhibitions, courses and publica- tions which combine the interest of experts with the public. Leyre Bozal, Curator of the Fun- dacion MAPFRE exhibitions noted that Pablo Picasso and Joan Miro were two of 20th century's most in- fluential artists. Whilst the first founded cubism the second was active in the emer- genge of surrealism. This exhibi- tion displays 100 prints from the collection Suite Vollard as well as 40 paintings of Joan Miro. The exhibition has been entitled "The Flesh and The Spirit" and it is pre- sented as a double journey from black and white to colour and from violence to the celebration of life, from carnality to spirituality. This is a unique chance for those interested to learn more about two of the greatest artistic geniuses of all times and their creative process. As such, it is not just about signifi- cant and important works within the careers of the two artists as the works on display also allow us to question our own way of under- standing art and enjoying paint- ing. Visitors will be able to learn more about their artistic periods, their influences and their models, among other subjects. Jimenez and Bozal said they were delighted to be part of this project to bring Picasso to Malta. They ex- plained that Fundación MAPFRE has five specialised areas and col- laborates with a range of public and private, national and international institutions, NGOs, museums, foundations and associations in or- der to achieve its objectives . Fundación has been very ac- tive in Malta since 2012 through "The Street Smart Campaign" and Healthy Living campaign "Caqlaq " aimed to promote road safety and healthy lifestyle habits to more than 20,000 pupils aged 9 to 13 years, in schools across Malta and Gozo. Fundación also sponsored projects, in collaboration with the Equal Partners Foundation and Inspire Foundation which aims to help and improve the quality of life of young children who have a dis- ability problem. MAPFRE Middlesea is a strong supporter of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation and recog- nises the excellent work carried out by this national charity. Martin Galea, Chairman of MAPFRE Middlesea expressed his gratitude to the President of Malta for agreeing to collaborate with Fundación MAPFRE and making the Palace of the Grandmasters available for the exhibition, where people will have the opportunity to see the works of the great masters. The Shoreline seeks ambitious main contractor for Malta's largest private development THE Shoreline, a landmark devel- opment on the east coast of Malta, is seeking to appoint a main con- tractor to carry out the design and construction of the €200 million project. The January 2018 invitation at- tracted the attention of both Malta- based and international engineer- ing and construction firms from leading consultancy, advisory, con- struction and operations compa- nies. The developer has been con- tacted by a substantial number of interested candidates, which will be shortlisted through a qualifica- tion process used in the construc- tion industry to profile the bidders on their ability to deliver projects, with such considerations as qual- ity standards, environment, health and safety and financial strength all taken into account. The contract calls for the design and building of approximately 400 luxury apartments complete with shopping mall, recreation centres, and other amenities, making it the largest private construction pro- ject in Malta to date. The main contractor is expected to deliver the development in one go. The key selection criteria, according to the project developer, The Shore- line Residence Ltd., are experience, demonstration of resources and mobilisation speed. The Shoreline Residence's man- aging director Steve Carter said: "We are entering an exciting phase in the development of The Shore- line, as we prepare to engage part- ners who will join with us in this major endeavour to create Malta's first integrated lifestyle destina- tion. This invitation is a major op- portunity for contracting compa- nies to bid or join in consortia with large international contractors to design and build a new residential complex complete with shopping mall and underground parking fa- cilities." The mixed-use development is envisaged to bring the excitement of a leisure destination to Smart- City Malta, offering a varied mix of 1, 2, 3-bedroom residences that en- joy spectacular views, landscaped open spaces, and an assortment of community amenities. These apartments enjoy a Special Des- ignated Area Status (SDA), and fully conform to the parameters of the approved 2008 Masterplan for SmartCity Malta. The Shoreline is looking for main contractors capable of setting new construction industry records in Malta
