14 TODAY Discover Pieta's secret garden On Sunday, 19th May, Herit- age Malta in collaboration with NGO Friends of Villa Frere are inviting the public to visit the intriguing gardens of Villa Frere in Pietá. Distinguished as a prestigious botanic garden in its heydays, for many years, this place stood in a complete state of abandonment and few were aware of its existence. Price: Donation of €2 per person. Tickets are available from all Heritage Malta museums and sites and online on www.her- itagemalta.org Tickets will not be available at the door. Tours: Tours will include a visit to the gardens of Villa Frere only. Entrance is through St Luke's Hospital. Theatre JUNE 7 - 16 VII (Sette) Teatru Malta in partnership with FCN will be re-telling this monumental narrative through the eyes of Malta's Artists of the Year: The New Victorians. The sister duo, made up of Bettina and Philip- pa Cassar, will not only be composing the show but di- recting and performing in this one-of a kind outdoor musical at Fort St Elmo's Piazza d'Armi on the 7th, 8th, 9th,14th,15th and 16th of June in Valletta. Music UNTIL JUNE 8 Bir Miftuh International Music Festival Once again with spring comes the pleasure of the Bir Miftuħ International Music Festival, one of the highlights of the Maltese music calendar. Events will be spread over May and June and will include the likes of a Harp and Soprano Recital by Silke Aichhorn and Christín Enke-Mollnar, 'Concert for Eu- rope' featuring a String Quar- tet from The RE: Orchestra, formerly known as the Rotter- dam Ensemble and A Violon- cello and Piano Recital by 'The Modern Cello - Piano Duo'. The trio will take us on a tour of Alexandra's musical jour- ney to date, going back to 2013 with her debut EP, 'The Curi- ous Child' to her most recent release, 'Wild Honey' (2018) which was recorded at Rock- town Studios in the Nether- lands. Alexandra's music can best be described as sensi- tive and bittersweet, with lyr- ics gently cradled in dreamy soundscapes of lush strings and delicate instrumental runs. Doors open: 7pm, Con- cert starts: 8pm, Tickets now on sale: trackagescheme.com UNTIL JUNE 2 Earth Garden Earth Garden is Malta's larg- est Alternative Music Festival held annually at the National Park in Ta' Qali since 2007, at- tracting over 25,000 true music lovers from around the World, spread over four days. This year held on 30 May – 2 June, it will feature five music areas and around 120 acts from around the World with an eclectic music fusion of World Music, Ska, Funk, Blues, Reggae, Al- ternative Rock, Dub, Hip-Hop, Psychedelic Trance, Techno, House, Electro, Drum 'n' Bass and more. JUNE 8 An evening with Bruce Dickinson NNG Promotions are proud to announce a special one-man speaking show by Iron Maiden singer, Bruce Dickinson in Mal- ta on Saturday June 8 at the Sir Temi Zammit Hall, University Of Malta, Tal-Qroqq, Msida. Split into two parts, the first half of the show sees Bruce tak- ing a humorous, often satirical look back at his colourful, roller- coaster life. Delivering compel- ling tales in his uniquely anar- chic style and punctuated with photographs, he recounts anec- dotes from the book, including numerous risqué stories which never quite made it to the final edit….. ! The highlights for this year's programme are Kenny Gar- rett, one of the world's most renowned saxophone players, Jazzmeia Horn one of the most important jazz vocalists, who was nominated for a grammy last year, Ozmosys featur- ing legendary jazz drummer Omar Hakim, one of the most versatile eclectic jazz drum- mers who has collaborated with Miles Davis, Dire Straits, Daft Punk and David Bowie and for the second time Chu- cho Valdés – the Cuban jazz legend, six-time Grammy Award Winner, who will all be performing on the Main Stage at Ta' Liesse in Valletta.
