30 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 26 MAY 2019 SPORTS BASKETBALL THE first International Basket- ball Tournament 2019 contin- ues today at the Ta' Qali Bas- ketball Pavilion. The tournament incorporates six teams consisting of local and foreign basketball players residing in Malta together with the Sicilian side of ASD Pozzal- lo that has been invited for the first edition of this tournament. The aim of this tournament is to generate more interest about this established and sought af- ter sport in Malta whilst pro- viding a weekend full of enter- tainment to all those joining the local basketball community at the Ta' Qali Pavilion during the last weekend of May. Several activities have been included in the event's pro- gramme including a static car show, the participation of Paul Curmi Dancers, Degym Cheer- leaders, Music and Food Stalls. Entrance for all the games is free, however, the organising committee is inviting all those attending to give a voluntary donation to Puttinu Cares that will be present throughout the event. Furthermore, various local sports personalities will be at- tending as special guests in- cluding Jake Vella, the winner of a bronze medal of the under 12 National Championship 2019 of time trial. The six clubs which will be participating in the tourna- ment are Swieqi Rocks, Chain- smokers, Island Badgers, Star- lites Naxxar, Gzira Athleta and ASD Pozzallo. The event is generating a lot of interest amongst the local basketball community. The tournament is being organised by Ivan Cascione Events that has vast experience in organising similar tourna- ments in Italy with the collabo- ration of FBL Malta.
