14 TODAY MAY 22 – MAY 29 Malta Fashion Week Malta Fashion Week is back for a week of incred- ible designers, awards and activities. All events will be held at Fort St Elmo, show- casing local and interna- tional talent including Ga- gliardi, Parascandalo and new designers. Julinu's Radioactive Ravioli Award-winning artist-il- lustrator Julian Mallia, also known as Julinu, will soon present his first solo paint- ing exhibition that promis- es to offer alternative visual interpretations of familiar notions and elements from pop culture. The exhibition, named Julinu's Radioactive Ravioli, features a collection of 17 realistically-executed oil paintings, which utilise the artist's signature graph- ic wit, atmospheric surreal- ism and meticulously-exe- cuted visual ideas to present a different take on reality. Curated by Justine Balzan Demajo and Francois Zam- mit, Julinu's Radioactive Ra- violi is supported by a Malta Arts Fund Project Support Grant from Arts Council Malta and by Vee Gee Bee Art, San Gwann. It is tar- geted at anyone aged 16 and above and will be exhibited at Spazju Kreattiv in Val- letta from Friday 26 April until Sunday 26 May, with entrance free of charge. Theatre JUNE 7 - 16 VII (Sette) Teatru Malta in partnership with FCN will be re-telling this monumental narrative through the eyes of Mal- ta's Artists of the Year: The New Victorians. The sister duo, made up of Bettina and Philippa Cassar, will not only be composing the show but directing and performing in this one-of a kind outdoor musical at Fort St Elmo's Piaz- za d'Armi on the 7th, 8th, 9th, 14th, 15th and 16th of June in Valletta. Music UNTIL JUNE 8 Bir Miftuh International Music Festival Once again with spring comes the pleasure of the Bir Miftuħ International Music Festival, one of the highlights of the Maltese music calendar. Events will be spread over May and June and will include the likes of a Harp and Soprano Recital by Silke Aichhorn and Christín Enke-Mollnar, 'Concert for Europe' featuring a String Quartet from The RE: Or- chestra, formerly known as the Rotterdam Ensemble and A Violoncello and Piano Re- cital by 'The Modern Cello - Piano Duo'. This year held on 30 May – 2 June, it will feature five music areas and around 120 acts from around the World with an ec- lectic music fusion of World Music, Ska, Funk, Blues, Reg- gae, Alternative Rock, Dub, Hip-Hop, Psychedelic Trance, Techno, House, Electro, Drum 'n' Bass and more. JUNE 8 An evening with Bruce Dickinson NNG Promotions are proud to announce a special one- man speaking show by Iron Maiden singer, Bruce Dick- inson in Malta on Saturday June 8 at the Sir Temi Zam- mit Hall, University Of Malta, Tal-Qroqq, Msida. Split into two parts, the first half of the show sees Bruce taking a hu- morous, often satirical look back at his colourful, roller- coaster life. Delivering com- pelling tales in his uniquely anarchic style and punctu- ated with photographs, he recounts anecdotes from the book, including numerous risqué stories which never quite made it to the final ed- it….. ! The second half of the evening is devoted entirely to a Q&A session. Fans can expect a startlingly sub- lime synthesis of soaring and unmistakable melodies and the virtuoso guitar playing of John Petrucci in a live perfor- mance that is big, long and di- verse as only Dream Theater can make it. JULY 15 – 20 Malta Jazz Festival The 29th annual Malta Jazz Festival will be held from July 15 to July 20 this summer. The highlights for this year's programme are Kenny Gar- rett, one of the world's most renowned saxophone players, Jazzmeia Horn, one of the most important jazz vocalists who was nominated for a grammy last year, Ozmosys, featuring legendary jazz drummer Omar Hakim, one of the most versa- tile eclectic jazz drummers who has collaborated with Miles Da- vis, Dire Straits, Daft Punk and David Bowie and for the sec- ond time Chucho Valdés – the Cuban Jazz Legend, six-time Grammy Award winner, who will all be performing on the Main Stage at Ta' Liesse in Val- letta.
