19 COMMERCIAL maltatoday | SUNDAY • 26 MAY 2019 CAREMALTA and The Faculty of Theology within the Univer- sity of Malta, have collaborated in the presentation of the first Bioethics symposium. The aim of the symposium was to solicit bioethical understanding and set a national floor for discussion in view of the advancement of bi- ology, medicine and respective technologies. This initiative has been em- braced by CareMalta as the company believes in norms and values that guide their practice. Moral understanding is ex- pressed through the company core values and the way clients are regarded within their service of care. The introduction to this forum was done by President emeritus, Marie Louise Coleiro Preca. In her reflective words she stated… "The effective right applica- tion of bioethics is today much broader and definitely plays a central role in the way which human dignity, respect, and fun- damental human rights are en- sured to be enjoyed by all." The symposium followed by a brief talk by Rev. Raymond Zam- mit, Chair of the Professional Ethics program at the faculty of Theology, where the question of, Do we need bioethics was answered from different per- spectives within the context of discussion. SAN Michel Pure Table Water, a long-time supporter of tennis in Malta, is proud to an- nounce the appointment of top world junior tennis player Francesca Curmi, as brand am- bassador. Francesca started her tennis journey when she was just seven years old. Since 2014, she has played in 81 international tennis tournaments in 32 countries across the globe, notching up more than 285 competitive matches with a win-to-loss ratio of 70%. In January 2019 she was ranked number 52 on the world Junior circuit and has to date participated in all the junior Grand Slams – Roland Garros, Wimbledon, US Open and Australian Open. During 2018 Francesca beat 8 of top 50 world junior players. "We are proud to be working with an athlete of such great calibre. Francesca achieves this level not only because of her talent and pro- fessional team but more importantly because of her hard work. As a young teenage athlete, Francesca has several attributes that match our brand values. She is focused, self-confi- dent, successful and aggressive on the field," said Lara Filletti, San Michel Brand Executive at Simonds Farsons Cisk plc. During the third quarter of 2019, Francesca will start her ITF World Tennis Tour that provides professional opportunities for play- ers desiring to compete at the highest stages of professional tennis. Francesca claims "that there is a big difference in experience between the juniors and pros. From a physical perspec- tive, you are competing with players who are stronger and more experienced. It will be good for my tennis development, as I will be challenged to up my game." "My goal for this season is mainly to im- prove my tennis skills on all levels. There is always something to improve and training is challenging. I plan to play a lot of pro-tour- naments to find out how far I am in my tennis development, and where specifically I need to improve in order to be successful and com- petitive." Francesca is confident that her performance to date will encourage her further throughout the remainder of her junior career and moti- vate her to work even harder to achieve her longer-term goals of qualifying for the profes- sional Grand Slams and getting into the main draw. San Michel Pure Table Water is bottled, marketed and distributed across Malta and Gozo by Simonds Farsons Cisk plc. Tennis player Francesca Curmi appointed San Michel brand ambassador BDO, through its subsidiary company BDO Technology Ad- visory Limited, is amongst the first service providers in Malta to be recognised as a System Audi- tor by the Malta Digital Innova- tion Authority (MDIA). BDO Malta is currently the only firm licensed to act as both a VFA agent and a Systems Au- ditor. The recognition enables BDO to conduct both Type I and Type II System Audits which are based on guidelines and control objectives issued by the MDIA. System Audits are mandatory for Issuers and Service Provid- ers applying for a licence under the Virtual Financial Assets Act and for Innovative Technology Arrangements (ITA) seeking a voluntary certification under the MDIA certification process. A Type 1 System Audit is usu- ally conducted when the ITA is in the process of applying to be certified by the Authority, or when the Authority deems it necessary. A Type II System Au- dit extends into the operational effectiveness of controls during the timeframe of the audit and is carried out periodically, or at the behest of the Authority. The requirement to conduct System Audits came into force on 1st November 2018 as a re- sult of Malta's new regulatory framework around blockchain activity and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT). The process to obtain the MDIA's recognition as System Auditor is very rigorous and requires the System Auditor to have deep knowledge and understanding of the technol- ogy being audited as well as the system audit principles applied across IT assurance frameworks. Mark Attard, Chief Executive Officer at BDO Malta stated, "The MDIA recognition is a sig- nificant milestone for BDO as it positions the Firm in a truly unique position, as we are now the only service provider in Mal- ta to have obtained both the MF- SA VFA Agent licence as well as the MDIA System Auditor licence. BDO is now officially li- cenced by all relevant regulators to support Malta's blockchain and virtual financial asset indus- try into its next stage of growth." Ivan Spiteri, Head of Tech- nology Advisory at BDO Malta stated, "Our Tech Advisory & Assurance team worked very hard to obtain this very impor- tant recognition by the MDIA. We are immensely proud to be amongst Malta's first to be licenced to carry out System Audits. We look forward to be- ing of assistance to fast growing companies in the blockchain and DLT industry who are making Malta their legal, regulatory and operational home." BDO Malta has built a dedi- cated team of subject matter ex- perts, bringing together a range of skills to undertake MDIA Sys- tem Audits.
