Goals by Hamza Barry and Ab- delkarim Nafti either side of half time gave the Citizens a third con- secutive 2-0 win against the bot- tom placed club. A hapless Zebbug registered their seventh defeat of the cam- paign, leaving them with a meagre four points from 11 games. Valletta manager Gilbert Agius started yesterday's game with the lineup which faced Balzan while Zebbug coach Alfonso Greco kept faith with the starting 11 team which drew with Qormi on Mon- day. Rangers went close to open- ing the score in the 19th minute thanks to a Carlo Monti shot which just missed the target. However, two minutes later Val- letta took the lead when they were awarded a penalty after the former Cameroon Under/20 international striker Raphael Kooh Sohna was brought down inside the area. Gambia international Hamza Barry stepped up to put the ball in the back of the net to put Valletta ahead. Five minutes later, Zebbug were reduced to 10 men in the 26th minute after Thomas Paris was sent off for a tough challenge on Malta international Roderick Briffa. Following the break, Valletta doubled their lead after Tunisian international midfielder Abdelka- rim Nafti chipped the ball over Zebbug goalkeeper Fabricio Rap- chan from inside the box. In the 75th minute, Zebbug went close to scoring but Valletta goalkeeper Nicky Vella pulled off a suberb save from Matthew Bar- tolo's point-blank shot. In the dying minutes, Valletta kept possession well without tak- ing any further risks, to take home all three points.
