Malta won the right to host the contest this year after Gaia Cauchi, 11, triumphed in Ukraine last year with her song The Start. The Shipbuilding stage will play host to 16 different countries, and Malta will be represented by Frederica Falzon, 11, who also flew the Maltese flag at the 2013 edition of Sanremo Doc, an international competition held in Italy.
