Matthew agius Police raids on Thursday and Fri- day resulted in nine drug-related arrests and a substantial haul of ecstasy, ketamine, cocaine and can- nabis grass. The arrests were made outside the National Aquarium in Bugibba, which hosted the lost and Found Festival, fronted by BBc Radio 1 presenter Annie Mac and which has attracted some 6,000 clubbers to Malta. Maundy Thursday and the begin- ning of Good Friday were "celebrat- ed" with permits to play loud music and serve alcohol until 2am. Five British nationals, aged be- tween 20 and 22, were arrested on Thursday when they were found to be in possession of substances, which were suspected to be drugs. Two other British teens, aged 18 and 19 were arrested on Friday and found to be in possession of MD- MA, ketamine and cannabis grass, in amounts which denoted that the drugs were not intended for their personal use. The first five youths admitted to charges of simple possession after being arraigned before Magistrate Miriam Hayman. They were condi- tionally discharged. The teens suspected of trafficking also pleaded guilty, with one being sentenced to 12 months' imprison- ment and fined €500, while the oth- er received an 11-month sentence and a €500 fine. Yesterday, two more British na- tionals and a Maltese were also ar- rested for ecstasy possession, and in a separate investigation, the police arrested another 24-year-old man for cannabis trafficking. They are to be arraigned. Motorcyclist killed in tragic Gozo accident A tragic road accident in Gozo claimed the life of a 30 year old motorcyclist from Sannat yesterday afternoon. The man lost his life when, for reasons as yet unknown, he lost control of his KTM 250eXc motor- cycle and crashed into an electric- ity pole on Triq l-imgarr, Xewkija at around 12:30pm. The police report said that the man was rushed by ambulance to the Gozo General Hospital, but was certified dead shortly after. Duty Magistrate Joanne Vella cuschieri was informed and has ap- pointed several experts to assist her in the inquiry.
