Events 26 maltatoday, Sunday, 12 april 2015 Emirates airline, a global connector of people, places and passions, host- ed the in-flight premiere of "Living in the Age of Airplanes," a new film for IMAX, giant screen, digital and other specialty theaters, that cele- brates how aviation has changed the world, onboard one of the airline's A380 aircraft. The film, presented by National Geographic Studios, takes audiences on a journey through 95 locations in 18 countries, many of which make up Emirates' vast global network that spans over 140 destinations worldwide. From the Maldives to the South Pole, the film illuminates how airplanes have empowered a century of global connectedness our ances- tors could never have imagined. "Emirates brings countries and cultures together through travel, and we know that aviation also has a significant impact in facilitating global trade and economies," said Patrick Brannelly, Emirates' Divi- sional Vice President for Customer Experience (Inflight Entertainment & Connectivity). "'Living in the Age of Airplanes' pays homage to the historic life- line of the aviation industry tak- ing a look back at where we have come from and looking forward to a bright future. It is with great ex- citement that we are hosting the special media preview of this film onboard our iconic A380 – one of the most advanced aircraft in the skies today." The 47-minute film, narrated by actor and pilot Harrison Ford, takes audiences on a unique jour- ney to show how the airplane has changed the world. Produced and directed by Brian J. Terwilliger and set to an original score by Academy Award®-winning composer and pi- lot James Horner, the film reflects on the ways that airplanes have transformed lives and progressed our global community. In advance of the world-premiere in Washington DC on April 8th, U.S. and International media were given a special preview of "Living in the Age of Airplanes" onboard, co- hosted by National Geographic and Emirates airline – a first-of-its-kind event. The event began with a reception in the new Emirates Lounge located in the Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles Interna- tional Airport. Guests then boarded one of Emirates' fleet of 59 iconic, double-decker A380s for a special flight over the Los Angeles area. The flight was led by Captain Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum and Senior First Officers Nasser Al Gha- fry and John Braddock. On board, guests viewed the film on ice, Emir- ates' award winning entertainment system, on 20-inch individual seat back monitors in the Business Class cabin. Emirates' ice system offers passengers more than 2,000 chan- nels of on-demand entertainment featuring movies, television shows, music and podcasts. "Living in the Age of Airplanes" will be released to IMAX, giant screen, 15/70 film dome and digital cinemas in North America begin- ning April 10, 2015. GO employees enjoy Comino trek First MISCO student obtains ILM level 7 qualification Emirates hosts the in-flight premiere of National Geographic's "Living in the Age of Airplanes" onboard an A380 aircraft Employees from GO, together with their family and friends braved recent bad weather and ven- tured to Comino for a day of trekking. Despite the condi- tions, they were still able to enjoy the breathtaking scen- ery and visit some of the historical sites dotted across the is- land. Organised by the GO Sports Com- mittee, the trekking event provided an opportunity for em- ployees to enjoy a stress-free, fun day with colleagues away from their work environment. GO's Sports Committee is com- mitted on an ongoing basis to or- ganising different events for staff members from across the com- pany. The primary scope of the Committee is to encourage and support the development of sports particularly at employee level and focusing on corporate initiatives that blend sport with culture, edu- cation and other basic concepts. Ayrton Caruana, Chief Human Resources Officer at GO, said, "GO's primary aim is to make sure we give customers the best possi- ble service. Maria Galea Kenely is MISCO's first student to have successfully ob- tained the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) postgradu- ate diploma in Strategic Leadership and Executive Management. Galea Kenely, who is currently the General Manager at Starpharma, obtained the Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Leadership and Executive Management after completing the three year course. Lawrence Zammit, Director of MISCO presented the certificate to Maria Galea Kenely during her re- cent visit to MISCO's ILM Training Center. "The ILM course is tailor made to help individuals choose and uti- lize effective leadership styles and strategies to lead and to be prepared to lead eventual changes in one's organisation. On a more personal level, this course provided me with the tools and capabilities to take responsibility for my own growth and development as a leader in my place of work. My managerial posi- tion was of extreme importance to me as it helped me put my acquired knowledge in the context of my real situation," said Maria Galea Kenely. "Accomplishing this goal is highly rewarding but it was definitely no easy task as it required hard work and dedication. Nonetheless I was absolutely committed to this course which evolved into a very positive experience that gave me the oppor- tunity to develop the skills to under- stand, evaluate and improve myself as a leader. Doing this course with MISCO was very positive as they were 100% supportive, highly com- petent and professional at all stages," added Maria Galea Kenely.
