Events 44 maltatoday, Sunday, 9 auguSt 2015 New Director of Communications at InterContinental Malta InterContInental Malta has announced the appoint- ment of louise Pullicino as Di- rector of Communications. Pullicino's career in hospital- ity spans over 15 years. She has worked for Corinthia Hotels in a number of positions both at their St. Julian's and london properties. Her more recent career saw Pullicino move into developmental roles at the In- finitely Xara Group and most recently at Casa ellul, an all suite boutique hotel located in Valletta where she was pivotal in the seamless opening and day-to-day operations. Pullicino prides herself on her strong product knowledge, foreseeing or determining her clients' needs and build- ing good and lasting working relationships. While discuss- ing her new position, Pullicino said, "I am thrilled to be join- ing the hotel during this tran- sition, and to be assisting in the development of an exciting new product for the Maltese Is- lands." Pullicino (right) has set her sights on the successful launch of the Highline Suites and the advancement of the luxury travel market that goes with it. She shall be leading the prop- erty's repositioning endeavors, and together with the market- ing team has been charged with streamlining the prop- erty's new brand image across all channels, leading to the positioning the hotel as 'the Mediterranean's leading hotel of distinction that defines new luxury in Malta.' Banif hosts unforgettable summer staff party Set against Café Del Mar's stun- ning sea views, Banif 's staff sum- mer party was definitely one for the ages. every year, the Bank's Sports and Social Committee organises this event to give em- ployees the chance to mingle, eat, drink and dance the night away – and the team dutifully obliged! the DJ sets progressed from chillout tunes to club favourites, as the party-goers let their hair down and really got into the spirit of the event. Surprise act Winter Moods duo Ivan Grech and Melvin Caru- ana took the stage to play an acous- tic set, stealing the show with the popular 'Xemx wisq sabiħa'. "What a great experience!" re- marked Matthew Cutajar, member of the Banif Sports & Social Com- mittee and one of the DJs on the night. "Being part of the Commit- tee, I was able to get a taste of event organisation and logistics which I usually wouldn't during my regu- lar duties. But with great food, an incredible location and top class musical acts - not to mention the positive feedback we received from colleagues - we're really happy with how it all turned out!" there was yet another surprise in store as employees were treated to a video montage featuring can- did moments from all the Bank's events since the beginning of the year, which evoked plenty of laughs and excitement. after getting over the Monday blues, it's safe to say that all who were present are look- ing forward to the next party! Peugeot 208 BlueHDi sets fuel consumption record a 1.6 litre BlueHDi 100 S&S Peu- geot 208 has set a new long-dis- tance fuel consumption record, under the supervision of UtaC. 2,152 kilometres were covered on 43 litres of Diesel, an average fuel consumption of just 2.0 l /100 km (141.2 mpg). this record confirms the tech- nological excellence of the euro 6 BlueHDi Diesel engines and their contribution to the reduction of Co2 emissions. this performance was achieved at the end of april on the Peugeot test circuit at Belchamp in France, supervised by the french type approval authority, UtaC (Un- ion technique de l'automobile, du motocycle et du Cycle). a strictly standard Peugeot 208, fit- ted with the 1.6 litre BlueHDi 100 S&S engine and 5-speed manual gearbox, ran for 38 hours and 2152kilometres while consuming only 43 litres of fuel. In doing so, the new Peugeot 208 set an absolute long distance fuel consumption record for a standard production vehicle. Sev- eral drivers were used to arrive at this result, each taking a turn of 3 to 4 hours at the wheel during the test. the Peugeot 208 tested was a "Very low Fuel Consumption" version, available from the dealer network as part of the range. With an official combined fuel con- sumption figure of 3.0l/100km (94.2 mpg) and low Co2 emis- sions of 79 g / km, it takes its place as the world benchmark for a standard production model powered by an internal combus- tion engine. this version is characterised by the presence of an aerodynamic rear spoiler and the adoption of ultra-low rolling resistance Michelin energy Saver + tyres. these values are already excep- tional, but combined with the dy- namic qualities of the new Peu- geot 208 – compact, light, fun to drive - they offer the potential to go even further. Challenge taken up, challenge won! associating SCr (Selective Cat- alytic reduction) and an additive particle filter in a unique way, the BlueHDi technology demon- strates once again that it is the most efficient and effective Die- sel emissions control system on the market. on sale in europe from June, the new Peugeot 208 offers excep- tionally economical and efficient euro6 petrol and Diesel engines. as regards Co2 emissions, the petrol range offers remarkably well-contained values from 97g/ km while with Diesel, the Blue- HDi range is now entirely below 95g/km. Peugeot is rapidly reducing the Co2 emissions of all of its ve- hicles in a tangible way. the ac- celerated implementation of the 3-cylinder Puretech petrol and BlueHDi Diesel engines, as well as the new 1.6 litre tHP engines and the eat6 transmission, now places 20 Peugeot vehicles at the best level in their power class for Co2 emissions (five Puretech, three 1.6 litre tHP and twelve BlueHDi). these engines meet the demand by the Peugeot brand for develop- ment that takes account of the environment, with in particular, engines that are ever cleaner and produce less Co2. Peugeot's environmental per- formance made the PSa Peu- geot Citroën Group the leader in europe in 2014 with average Co2 emissions of 110.3g/km, in a european market where the av- erage is at 123.7 g. this result is achieved without any change in the mix of segments. a video of the record run can be found at www.peugeot-pressepro. com MSV Life becomes patron of the BOV Joseph Calleja Foundation MSV life, Malta's largest life in- surance company, has become a patron of the BoV Joseph Calleja Foundation. the Foundation was set up by Bank of Valletta and Malta's world- renowned tenor Joseph Calleja two years ago with the objectives of supporting talented young persons in realising their full potential in the field of performing arts, and providing assistance to underprivi- leged children whose situations are not catered for by existing social support programmes. In the short time since it was set up, the Foundation has supported a number of Malta's most gifted young artists to further their stud- ies and develop their talent in the world of performing arts. the Foundation has recently launched its 'Growing through arts' programme which seeks to mobilise the therapeutical power of art as a means to reach out to underprivileged children helping them come to terms with emotions and circumstances they might otherwise find it hard to express in their social background. a spokesman for MSV life said: "our company is renowned for its commitment to bringing arts and culture to everyone and to sup- porting the pillars of what keeps a healthy society thriving – from supporting vulnerable individuals to encouraging in a tangible man- ner the development of sport, cul- ture and the arts for everybody's all-round wellbeing. "We are honoured to have be- come patrons of the BoVJCF and do our bit to help society grow in all the aspects a human being needs to lead a decent and digni- fied life." the BoV Joseph Calleja Foun- dation is a not-for-profit organisa- tion that relies on the generosity of patrons and other supporters to raise funds to enable it to pursue its objectives. For the past two years, Joseph Calleja has performed in a Christmas concert organised to raise funds for the Foundation.
