maltatoday, SUNDAY, 21 MAY 2017 Events 51 Gold and Bronze for Delicata's Topflight White Wines Their passion and craftsman- ship earned Delicata, Malta's most-awarded family of win- emakers, two prestigious medals at The 2017 Challenge International du Vin in Bor- deaux, France, which is prob- ably the longest running major international wine competi- tion. Delicata's Gran Cavalier Chardonnay won Gold where- as their Grand Vin de Haute- ville Viognier earned a well- deserved Bronze. The two Delicata wines were Malta's only medallists. Both superior dry white wines are of the D.O.K. Malta appellation and made from hand-picked bunches and sort- ed grape berries of the chal- lenging 2016 vintage. The coveted medals are tes- timonial to Delicata's ever- growing reputation for being craftsmen of top-notch bou- tique wines. This is again excellent news for team Delicata. It follows hot on the heels of the com- mendations for two other wines in the winery's Gran Cavalier flagship range, first- ly by Europe's largest wine magazine Vinum for the 2015 barrel-matured Syrah, and also for the 2014 Merlot served together with the 2013 Grand Vin de Hauteville Moscato at a gala dinner at one of Milan's best 2-star Michelin restau- rants just weeks ago. Since his maiden vintage, chief winemaker Matthew Delicata has taken an impact- ful lead with consistently high- scoring premium Maltese wines and Delicata's signature labels have gained recognition as sought-after quality wine gems. But the recent Bronze Medal for the Grand Vin de Haute- ville Viognier is especially close to the winemaker's heart since the Viognier variety is particularly difficult to grow. The award shows that good Viognier is no longer confined to its original terroir in France but also thrives in deeper Mal- tese soils provided it is given expert care and attention. Delicata's Gran Cavalier Chardonnay, Malta's only gold-medallist at The 2017 Challenge International du Vin, is skilfully vinified from quality grapes coming exclu- sively from two specially ear- marked Maltese clos or walled vineyard parcels in Wied tal- Isqof and Ta' Buqana. This flavour-packed, fruity luxury wine is a creamy Mal- ta-grown Chardonnay, barrel fermented in its own purpose- built cooled chai, with a pleas- ant whiff of wet gravel and dewy hay and delectable hints of brioche and buttercream in fine contrast with an invigor- ating zesty lime and pear drop palate. Both the Gran Cavalier Chardonnay and the Grand Vin de Hauteville Viognier by Delicata are rich, ripe and ex- pertly recommended. Katherine Ellis, Group Business Director of Boston Multi Fam- ily Office, has won a prestigious Women in Wealth Management (Individual Contribution) Award at the European WealthBriefing Awards held at the Guildhall in London. Showcasing the best providers and individual contributors in the world of global private banking, wealth management and financial advice, the WealthBriefing awards are designed to recognise those who have demonstrated innova- tion and excellence during 2016. The panel of expert judges said they were "greatly struck" by the range of Katherine's "accomplish- ments, achievements and com- mitments to the industry", adding: "She is an exemplar to us all." Boston CEO Alex Fray said that Katherine's win was thoroughly well deserved: "Katherine's wide experience in the luxury asset market, combined with her drive to develop and secure new busi- ness for Boston, puts her clearly at the front of her chosen field. She is a highly motivated individual, whose enthusiasm is infectious, and we are all thrilled that she has received such tremendous recog- nition." Also congratulating Katherine on her success, Stephen Har- ris, CEO of ClearView Financial Media which publishes Wealth- Briefing, said: "These awards rec- ognise the very best operators in the private client industry, with independence, integrity and genu- ine insight the watchwords of the judging process." Judging is based on a submis- sion that required responses to a number of specific questions, he added, which had to be answered focusing on client experience, not quantitative performance metrics. This unique approach, said Mr Harris, meant the awards "truly reflect excellence in wealth man- agement." The black-tie event was attended by an audience of private bankers, lawyers, accountants, financial advisors and technology providers from across the wealth manage- ment sector. Commenting after- wards, Katherine said: "Nobody can excel in this complex field alone and I am privileged to be surrounded by exceptional indi- viduals with a real passion for the work they do. "Many of those amazing people are women and I am really lucky to be part of a supportive compa- ny with a diverse board and work environment."
