maltatoday, SUNDAY, 21 MAY 2017 Motoring & Boating V Local brand KNAZ launches e-mobility concept in Harmun THE short distances in Malta are ideal for electric vehicles, which cover on average close to 100km per charge. The introduction of renewable energy forms such as solar power allows electric cars and scooters to be zero emission vehicles; the vehicles emit no pol- lutants directly into the air where they are being driven. KNAZ is a local brand which is specialised in the development and production of electric cars and scooters. These are manu- factured with the latest technol- ogy from Korea, directly for the Maltese market. The fact that all vehicles are right-hand drive adds an element of personalisation for the local market. Car enthusiast Tonio Darmanin has tried and tested a number of the brand's 100% electric vehicles. Particular attention was paid to the autonomy of the battery (60- 70km) which allows long periods of driving without recharging. One will spend as little as €0.26c to cover a distance of 60km whilst driving this powerful vehicle, reaching a maximum speed of up to 50km/hr. The battery of these vehicles takes around eight to 10 hours to fully charge, so one can do it over- night using a domestic 3-pin plug. One of the biggest benefits of KNAZ electric vehicles is that they require no maintanence. The electric motor and batteries used are sealed and maintenance-free, the latter having a 2-year warran- ty. However, should one require a battery replacement after 2 years, the user can purchase one for less than €120. Car drivers in possession of a regular category B driving license are able to ride KNAZ's electric scooters without having to obtain an additional motorbike licence. The road licence for scooters has been slashed to €10, making it an attractive option. KNAZ's range of 100% electric vehicles offers top class perfor- mance allowing one to enjoy the ride, whilst producing zero emissions. You can find the new showroom at 755, High Street, Hamrun, opposite Daniel's Shopping Complex. For more information, If interested, call on 27882755 or find the brand on Facebook.
