6 TODAY Repubblika Immakulata Dù Theatre is back with a co-production with Spazju Kreattiv! A General elec- tion, a wedding and the lo- cal feast. On the same day. Within the same family. No one wants to give in. And whilst everyone tries to hold on tight to the tradi- tions that make us who we are, no one wants to accept that in Malta, we are no longer what we used to be. Gualitana Festival of Music "Gozo's main classical music festival" returns be- tween 8 March and 7 April 2019. This year's edition promises to be an exciting programme of events focus- ing on the theme "Women in Society". Gaulitana will include an eclectic mix of events with multifarious styles – orchestral, cham- ber, recitals, vocal, featur- ing international and local artists and ensembles. Held in various locations around Gozo (with some events in Malta), the festival incorpo- rates multiple creative arts, from literature, to acting, cinema and live-painting, whilst presenting multiple genres (jazz, pop, musicals and folk music). It will also host an exhibition by 30 Chinese female artists and shall commemorate the bi- centenary since the birth of Clara Schumann. Celebrating Hal Safi Day with Mediaeval Exhibition In celebration of Ħal Safi Day, this weekend Heritage Malta is presenting the exhibition 'Core and Periphery: Mdina and Safi in the 9th and 10th centuries' at Ħal Safi Local Council Building. The ceramic typology for these periods is being presented for the first time, as a way of intro- ducing a wider discussion about the society and the economy of Malta in the 9th and 10th Cen- turies. In particular, the exhibi- tion focuses on the differences between urban and rural life in the period. On Sunday, 7th April, from 10am to 1pm, visi- tors can meet and discuss this facinating epoch with the cura- tor. Admission is free. Theatre APRIL 11 – 14 Lord of The Flies Teatru Manoel Youth Thea- tre is proud to present Lord of the Flies by Nobel Prize win- ner William Golding. The classic novel, a potent allegory about the loss of innocence and the decline of civilization, is brought to dramatic life in Nigel Williams' adaptation. A plane crashes on a deserted is- land. The only survivors are a group of young adults. By day, it's a tropical paradise of sun and sea; but each night, their dreams are inhabited by a ter- rifying beast. Recommended age group: 8+ APRIL 9 -14 Alla Mnezza The story-line is known by al- most everyone. A seemingly vir- tuous man became very popular in his time as some recounted that he performed miracles. He was deemed subversive and dangerous by the political/reli- gious elite and was condemned to death. He is reported to have said that he would conquer death. His words and deeds still resonate today. But DWAL ĠODDA theatre group tack- les the plot of this story from different perspectives in their yearly two-act production in combination with the tradi- tional Good Friday procession at Gharghur, which is held on Palm Sunday – this year, 14th April. DWAL ĠODDA will give two performances of " Alla Mneżża' " at Spazju Teatrali on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th at 7.30pm. Entrance is free. On 14th April, Palm Sunday, a 'park and ride' shuttle system will be operating with the col- laboration of the Gharghur Lo- cal Council, from the area near the old Trade Fair grounds in Naxxar, to Gharghur and back, between 4.30pm and 10.30pm.
