7 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 7 APRIL 2019 TV, MUSIC AND BOOKS Dumbo In cinemas now Dumbo A tale as old as time, Walt Disney's animated movie Dumbo has been remade and is back on our screens. A young elephant, whose oversized ears enable him to fl y, helps save a struggling circus, but when the circus plans a new ven- ture, Dumbo and his friends discover dark secrets beneath its shiny veneer. Your children will love this movie, but you'll secretly love it too! So head to the cinemas to watch this movie! Five feet apart Seventeen-year-old Stella spends most of her time in the hospital as a cystic fi brosis patient. Her life is full of routines, boundaries and self-control -- all of which get put to the test when she meets Will, an impossibly charming teen who has the same illness. There's an instant fl irtation, though restrictions dictate that they must maintain a safe distance between them. As their con- nection intensifi es, so does the temptation to throw the rules out the window and embrace that attraction. The white crow Capturing the raw physicality and brilliance of Rudolf Nureyev, whose escape to the West stunned the world at the height of the Cold War. With his magnetic presence, Nureyev emerged as ballet's most famous star, a wild and beautiful dancer limited by the world of 1950s Leningrad. His fl irtation with Western artists and ideas leads him into a high-stakes game of cat and mouse with the KGB. Khalid – Free Spirit Young singer Khalid is back with his second album following the success of his debut 'American Teen'. Free Spirit is a 17-track album featuring a pop sound mixed with R&B with a midtempo groove. The album also features collaborators including the likes of Disclosure, John Mayer and Norwegian hit factory Stargate. Jonas Brothers – Cool Remember The Jonas Brothers? Every teenage girl who was obsessed with them in the early 2000s is in for a treat, with the brother trio returning to the music scene after a long time! This week, they released their second new single 'Cool' along with a music video. Earlier this year, they also released their song 'Sucker'. Ariana Grande and Victoria Monet – Monopoly Pop star Ariana Grande released a new single this week, with friend and singer-songwriter Victoria Monet. The cheery pop single turned heads with Grande fans with a lyric in the song's chorus, in which she sings, "I like women and men." But Grande is not as concerned, focusing on her friend- ship with Monet online rather than the rumours. PASSJONI - Merging Art and Faith In Malta, the Passion of the Christ is told through highly-accomplished statues that are used in Good Friday processions held across the Islands. The story they tell is of how the Son of God redeemed humanity from its sins, and the sacrifi ce and love that made that possible is presented to us in the Gospels. These statues, therefore, take the Word of God a step further by allowing the faithful to envisage the pain and suffering endured by Christ. This book aims to marry the artistic and the devotional, by bringing together some of Malta's processional statues that have captured the imagination and the faith of many. By focusing on their expression and execution through the medium of photography, we can now continue telling the story these art works' creators wanted to tell. Ali Smith – Spring From the bestselling author of Autumn and Winter, as well as the Baileys Prize-winning How to be Both, comes the next installment in the remarkable, once-in-a-generation mas- terpiece, the Seasonal Quartet. What unites Katherine Mansfi eld, Charlie Chaplin, Shake- speare, Rilke, Beethoven, Brexit, the present, the past, the north, the south, the east, the west, a man mourning lost times, a woman trapped in modern times? Spring – The Great connective. Identity Crisis – Ben Elton Why are we all so hostile? So quick to take offence? Truly we are living in the age of outrage. A series of apparently random murders draws amiable, old-school Detective Mick Matlock into a world of sex, politics, reality TV and a bewildering kaleidoscope of opposing identity groups. Lost in a blizzard of hashtags, his already complex investigation is further impeded by the fact that he simply doesn't 'get' a single thing about anything anymore.
