NEWS maltatoday | SUNDAY • 28 APRIL 2019 A violent impact between a BMW 523 and a Toyota Vitz outside Birżebbuġa left three people in- jured yesterday. Police said the head-on collision happened at around 9.10am in Għar Dalam road and on impact the Vitz with an elderly couple in- side ended up in a field on the side of the road. A 21-year-old man from Kalkara who was driving the BMW and the elderly couple aged 80 and 72 from Birżebbuġa, were hospi- talised. The 80-year-old man was driving the Vitz. The BMW appears to have cut into the opposite lane before slam- ming into the Vitz. The police said the elderly cou- ple had sustained grievous inju- ries, while the 21-year-old was slightly injured. Three ambulances were called on site to take the injured to hospital. A small dog which was in the car with the elderly couple survived the crash but sustained a broken leg and had to be taken to the ani- mal hospital. Earlier this month, two women died and several others were in- jured in a head-on collision that happened on the outskirts of Mġarr when a Maruti 800 with six people inside crashed into an Audi. Elderly couple grievously injured in crash JOSEPH Muscat and Adrian Delia will go head-to-head for the first time this week as the campaign for the European Parliament election kicks off in earnest. The leaders will debate with each other on Saviour Balzan's Xtra, which is broadcast on TVM every Thursday. This will be the first time both leaders will engage in a debate since Delia was elected leader of the Nationalist Party 18 months ago. Delia, a litigation lawyer by pro- fession, has challenged Muscat to a televised debate on a number of occasions since becoming PN leader, a request Muscat had not accepted, until now. The country will finally be able to decide whether Delia has what it takes to come out on top against a seemingly unbeatable Muscat. The two will again face each other in the final debate organised by the Broadcasting Authority three days before the election. Malta votes to elect its MEPs and councillors in 68 localities on 25 May. MaltaToday's last survey in April put Delia's trust rating at 21.5% and that of Muscat at 49.6%. The Opposition leader had gained six points over his show- ing in March, while the Prime Minister lost five points. The gap between the leaders stood at 28 points. The PN leader's trust level over the course of more than a year has never gone beyond 27.2%, achieved in May 2018. Muscat's trust rating in April dropped below the half way mark for the first time in eight months. Xtra to host first Muscat- Delia debate The elderly couple's car ended up in a field
