Football Results & Fixtures FOOTBALL SPORTTODAY PHOTOGRAPHY BY RAY ATTARD Pembroke defeat St Andrews to share top spot PEMBROKE Athleta defeated St Andrew's 4-3 to join Valletta at the top of the BOV Premier League standings. Pembroke immediately took the lead after just two minutes of play when Gibson Bardsley passed the ball to Austin Maltz inside the area to have the latter beat goalkeeper Diego Rossetto with his shot. On the 19th minute, Pembroke managed to make it 2-0 when Aus- tin Maltz again beat goalkeeper Di- ego Rossetto with his shot. St Andrew's managed to get back in the match on the 30th minute when off a corner, goalkeeper Mario Muscat misjudged the ball and Mariglen Sehitaj easily headed the ball into goal to make the score 2-1. Pembroke did not take long how- ever to make the score 3-1 when on the 39th minute Gibson Bardsley dribbled past the defence to con- clude with a goal. St Andrews reduced Pembroke's lead 29 minutes later when Mat- thew Guillaumier's free-kick to- wards Chris De Nguidjol allowed the latter to shoot a low shot past goalkeeper Muscat. Seconds later after the restart, Pembroke almost made it 4-2 but O'Brien's shot hit the woodwork. O'Brien was not to be denied however, and on the 81st minute he picked up a short clearance and made the score 4-2. Close to the end of the match, St. Andrew's again reduced Pem- broke's lead when substitute Mat- teo Desira Buttigieg was left un- marked by St Andrew's defence and he easily headed the ball into goal past goalkeeper Muscat. Pembroke managed to hold on to their lead to take all three points home in this much-anticipated derby. Pembroke's Austin Maltz was voted BOV Player of the Match.
