48 maltatoday, SUNDAY, 21 FEBRUARY 2016 Sport FOOTBALL PHOTOGRAPHY BY RAY ATTARD Floriana too good for Naxxar Floriana .......................... 4 Naxxar ............................ 0 FLORIANA returned to win- ning ways by securing an easy win against lowly Naxxar in a largely one-sided encounter at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in Hamrun. The Greens managed to take the lead on the 20th minute when Ar- gentinian playmaker Nicolas Chie- sa hit the bottom corner of the net with a blazing shot. Four minutes later, on the half- hour mark, Naxxar went close to scoring an equalizer after Eduardo Vallecillo miscued his shot with only goalkeeper Matthew Calleja Cremona to beat. Just before the break, Floriana doubled the score thanks to a Steve Pisani accurate shot from the right which gave the Naxxar goalkeeper no chance. Floriana wrapped up the three points on the 75th minute when off an assist by Monticelli from the left, the Green's top scorer, Mario Fontanella, flicked the ball past Gallinetta to put his side 3-0 up. Two minutes from time substi- tute Daniel Agius fed Floriana's Piciollo who turned past his mark- er before rifling his shot into the net. The emphatic victory put Hibs momentarily at the top the table, on equal points with Valletta who play basement club St Andrews today. On the other hand, yester- day's defeat was Qormi's eighth consecutive loss, leaving Johann Scicluna's side second from last on nine points. The game was all but over with- in the first 15 minutes with the Paolites scoring twice thanks to goals by Andrei Agius and Jorge da Silva Pereira. Hibs made it 3-0 on the 23rd minute thanks to a powerful shot by playmaker Andrew Cohen and four minutes from the break, Edison Luis Dos Santos scored from the penalty spot after Sidibe fouled Pereira in the box, with the Qormi defender given his march- ing orders by referee Trustin Far- rugia Cann. Hibs went 5-0 up after 63 min- utes when Gilmar beat Vella with a fine strike after a good move involving Hibs' attacking duo Jorginho and Tarabai. Eight minutes later, Tarabai was brought down inside the area and from the penalty spot, Jorge da Silva Pereira placed the ball at the back of the net to make it 6-0. Six minutes from time, Qormi had another player sent off – Pi- etro Viggiani was sent off by Far- rugia Cann following a foul on Rodolfo Soares. On the 89th minute, Hibs were also reduced to 10 men after Jack- son Lima was also off after receiv- ing his second yellow card. For the Rainbows, it was another disappointing result, leaving them four points above Sliema. In a dreary first half, there was only one action of note when on 41 minutes Montebello's curling drive went a few centimetres wide. Under the guidance of caretaker coach Ivan Woods, the Wander- ers went ahead on the 59th minute thanks to Johann Bezzina, whose low shot from inside the area beat goalkeeper Andrea Cassar. Tarxien went close to scoring an equalizer when from a corner ac- tion, Azzopardi's cross-shot was pushed away by Zammit. Tarxien threw everything they had at Sliema and one minute from time Montebello pounced on some poor defending but the striker fired wide with only Zammit to beat.
