maltatoday, SUNDAY, 13 MARCH 2016 40 ANTONIO Vivaldi's The Four Seasons will feature internationally acclaimed Mal- tese violinist Carmine Lauri under the di- rection of Michael Laus on Easter Sunday, March 27 at St Publius Church in Floriana at 19:30. This special performance is being held in aid of brain research and organised by the University of Malta Research Trust (RIDT) in collaboration with the Malta Neuroscience Network. A 14-piece string ensemble made up of leading musicians residing in Malta will be under the baton of Michael Laus who will be conducting from harpsichord. Vivaldi's The Four Seasons is supported by APS Bank, the ADRC Trust and Studio 7. The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will be lending the harpsichord for the event. All proceeds from the concert go towards research in brain related fields at the Uni- versity of Malta through RIDT. Established in 2011 as a joint initiative between the University of Malta and the Government of Malta, RIDT has the ob- jective of raising funds to sustain and bol- ster research activity within the various departments of the university. www.ridt. eu Entrance tickets at €60, €30 and €25 may be booked from St James Cavalier: 2122 3200 or online: http://ow.ly/VESsk This Week Vivaldi's The Four Seasons in aid of brain research Michael Laus Nurturing Malta's musical identity THE Malta Youth Orches- tra (MYO) is the protago- nist in a new project that will take off with a launch concert, MYO Butterfly Project – The Beginnings, comprising a concoction of music genres, with one core element – Maltese Music. Kris and Daniel of Kafena, Nadine Axisa, Corazon, and Joe Roscoe will present their original songs, while Julie Zahra, Mike Portelli, Remy Azzopardi and Brooke will be interpreting Maltese classics, all arranged and performed by the MYO. Local musicians will have the opportunity to display their talents by perform- ing in a high-quality musi- cal show. Two internation- ally acclaimed musicians, Luca Colombo (guitar) and Lorenzo Bassignani (bass), will join the MYO for this concert, and will also be giving free masterclasses at Robert Samut Hall, Flo- riana, on March 20 and 24, 10:00 till 13:00. The idea of the butterfly came about to symbolise lo- cal artists who go to great lengths to achieve certain results, but are hindered due to certain limitations.
