PUBLIC LECTURE MAY 30 Utopia Inverted Public lecture by Dr Christopher John Müller at Gateway Hall E, University of Malta at 18:00. The talk probes the decisive moment of transition when money begins to proliferate and become an ubiquitous (printed) object in the world rather than being a rare possession of the few. Using the thought of Georg Simmel and Günther Anders I suggest that Gandy's painting can help isolate the tragic flaw of money this transition confounds, leading to the concentrations of power and annihilating tendencies of capitalism that are shaping the present in ever more devastating ways. Dr Christopher John Müller is an Honorary Research Associate in the School of English, Communication and Philosophy at Cardiff University and a Senior Associate Teacher at the University of Bristol. JUNE 8 Women and freemasonry Public lecture by Yasha Beresiner at Le Meridien, St Julian's Hotel and Spa at 18:30. The lecture will focus on how men and women of all religions, trades and ages, have been meeting for over three centuries under the remit of the Freemasons, who trace their origins to the operative working stone masons of medieval times. Beresiner is a NADFAS lecturer since 2010 and the author of many books on various aspects of collectibles related to freemasonry. More information: http://www.maltadfas.nadfas.net.
