Malta hosts EU
leaders' summit
During Malta's six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union, up to
30 June 2017, there will be around 1,500 meetings at different levels in Brussels
and Luxembourg as well as around 200 other meetings in Malta. Of all the meetings
hosted locally, Friday's informal meeting of EU heads of state or government will be
one of the most important. The 28 leaders will be discussing migration in general
– and the central Mediterranean route and Libya, in particular – as well as making
preparations for the upcoming 60th anniversary of the Rome Treaties on 25 March
