As the study focuses on improving trawl gear selectivity, the results could potentially lead to a reduction in the discards of the following species: European hake (Merluccius merluccius) and Deep-water rose shrimp (Parapenaues longirostris). In order to conserve fish stocks and better manage the EU fishing fleet, it is essential to effectively manage fisheries related data. This project is in line with Article 39 of Council Regulation (EC) No 508/2014, the Operational Programme for Malta – March 2015 and the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund 2014-2020.
